ROBERTO PATELLA IS A PHOTOGRAPHER BASED IN NEW YORK CITY AND MILAN.

FROM A VISION AND PASSION IN THE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION, ROBERTO SET OUT AND ESTABLISHED A PRACTICE BASED ON THE ALCHEMICAL UNION OF TWO ARGUABLY CONTRASTING FACULTIES: THE IMAGINATION AND MINDFULNESS. HIS PURSUIT OF RENDERING A STILL MOMENT THAT IS INHERENTLY FLEETING IS INCUBATED WITHIN A PROPENSITY TO RESEARCH, RECORD AND RECOUNT, ALL OF WHICH ARE INSPIRED FROM HIS STRONG IDENTITY WITH HIS IMMIGRANT HERITAGE.

HE HAS BEEN COMMISSIONED TO PHOTOGRAPH FOR MAGAZINES SUCH AS L’OFFICIEL, ESQUIRE, VANITY FAIR, L’UOMO VOGUE, LAMPOON, WONDERLAND, ELLE UK, ROLLACOASTER, MUSE, NUMÉRO, HYPETRAK, AND NEUEJOURNAL, AND PHOTOGRAPHED ARTISTS, CELEBRITIES AND HUMANITARIANS SUCH AS KEVIN BACON, CHUCK CLOSE AND ELIZABETH NYAMAYARO

IN AUGUST 2017, ROBERTO HAD HIS FIRST SOLO ART SHOW IN THE ARAGONESE CASTLE JUST OUTSIDE THE CITY OF LECCE, ITALY.  THE PROJECT ENTITLED “GLI UNI E GLI ALTRI” PUT A SPOTLIGHT ON THE THE IDEAS, CUSTOMS, AND SOCIAL BEHAVIOR OF THE APULIAN PEOPLE.  FOR THIS, HE COMBINED RECORDED SOUNDSCAPES AND OVER 70 PHOTOGRAPHS, RANGING FROM POLAROIDS TO PRINTS SIZED AT  143×178 CM, TO CREATE A MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCE FOR THE SPECTATOR, ENABLING THEM TO BE IMMERSED IN THE SOUNDS AND SIGHTS OF A CULTURE WHOSE COLORS ARE SLOWLY FADING.

HIS SECOND SOLO SHOW WAS IN MILAN IN MAY OF 2019, TITLED “THE INFINITE LANDSCAPE OF FRAGMENTED THOUGHTS”, IS AN OBSERVATION OF HUMAN, PLANT AND FIGURATIVE FORM, WHICH INCLUDES WORKS IN PHOTOGRAPHY AND SCULPTURE.

ROBERTO IS A TEACHER OF PHOTOGRAPHY AT NUOVA ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI DI MILANO AND ENJOYS HIS TIME TEACHING, AS IT NOT ONLY HELPS HIM MAINTAIN A CHILDLIKE HUMILITY AND CURIOSITY, WHICH FUELS HIS CREATIVITY, BUT ALSO FULFILLS HIS OBLIGATIONS OF IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE TO THOSE WHO SEEK IT.
